Shooting Womp Rats 59!

First off, we talk about Chris Madden’s stat base. Give it a go and see what you think.

Next up, there’s the news that Third Edition(brought to us by the same team that did REUP), is in playtesting. Good sign to me!

Then for GMs, we talk about the various things we hand-wave, how you talk to players, and cutscenes!

All this and more inside!

  1. Great Show!

    Comment on Hyperspace travel:
My players roll for each stage of space travel, as you know, because it makes it more immersive, as my game is more ‘simulationist’.

But to clarify; this is especially important because these characters are relatively NEW to space travel; “it’s not like dusting crops boy!” ; more can go wrong even on routine trips. As their skills improve, it will be less required. Routine trips will steadily become more hand-waived.

    Comment on referring to names:
A good thing about referring to the player characters by character name….the players actually learn the names of the OTHER player’s characters. That used to be a bit of a problem.

    Comment on description:
I use a prepared description infrequently, for scenes that I’m pretty sure are going to happen. Since my game is very open-sandbox I usually have enough to do trying to stay one step ahead of them to worry about detailed description.

  2. Another excellent episode, gentlemen. Especially enjoyed hearing what you guys handwave and the extent to which people “act in character(s)” whether GMing or as PC.

Personally, I think my old, long time group began hand-waving ranges and to-the-meter distances after only our first few months, going with what seems to the be more common 1E-style relative ranges.

Once we really got going, we all even semi hand-waved specific Force Powers, going with a more loose approach: Jedi describes the effect he’s going for, he and GM quickly come up with which of the 3 Force skills will come into play, how hard the tasks seems and BAM: Control and Alter rolled versus X difficulty, effect achieved.

Also completely did away with all but the family/close friend relationship modifier. The Force is used on perfect strangers all the time. Balky and Cousin Larry though, would sill get bonuses.

Agreed too that Peter Lomas is doing excellent work and the Simon’s Myth has introduced sound house rules (eg: the Language proficiency Knowledge slots). Interesting also to hear the effect Don has had on Daniel’s GM-style. Really, really looking forward to Rebels S2 book and honored to have been able to contribute some Clone Wars era background and some stat-blocks!
