Background:

You found yourself on a list of political undesirables -- who know why, since you had no interest in politics -- and stumbled into the arms of the Alliance. You found yourself of considerable use to them, and you wound up in their military. After a couple of tours you got sent to SpecForce training and assigned to a unit of rough-and-ready troopers...and you're pretty much one yourself.
